Anyone testing perforated or breathable plastic films eventually needs a way to measure exactly how much air moves through the material. That’s the job of an air permeability tester: it applies a controlled pressure to a sample and reads the resulting airflow in liters per minute.

That matters because digital readings hold steady from test to test, so you’re not second-guessing whether a variation is a real material issue or just operator inconsistency. Loading a sample is quick: it goes in from the front through a 5 mm opening with a 45 mm lead, no fiddling required.
Safety is built into how the clamp works. It won’t close unless both activation switches are pressed at the same time, keeping the operator’s hands well away from the clamping zone. That kind of detail is what separates a proper industrial air permeability tester meant for regular floor use from something designed only for occasional lab checks.
The actual testing sequence is fairly quick once you’re set up. Connect the compressed air line first, and switch on the air safety relief valve at the rear of the unit. Cut your sample down to 300 mm x 150 mm with a knife, then dial in your test pressure using the rear regulator, confirming it against the gauge on the front.
With the sample cut and pressure set, place the film between the clamps and press both activation switches together. The upper clamp comes down to hold everything in place while the lower chamber builds pressure to your set point. Once it settles, the digital display gives you your reading in litres per minute. Hit the Sample Release button afterward, and the air shuts off so you can swap in the next sample.
Because the machine handles clamping and pressurising on its own once you’ve started the cycle, it functions as a genuinely automated air permeability tester. Air permeability testing machine does not require hands on adjustment all through the process for anybody running back to back tests.
The litres per minute figure at the set pressure offers direct reading on the quantity of air escaping through the film. Compare that number to your spec, and you’ll know right away whether the batch is within range or needs a second look.
