TLC/HPTLC

TLC/HPTLC

The AS30 HPTLC Applicator uses a spray-on technique to deposit samples cleanly onto TLC and HPTLC plates without damaging the layer. It stores up to ten methods and connects easily with the CD60 Densitometer for accurate quantification. Paired together they form a reliable thin layer chromatography system suited for routine and regulated lab testing.

Product overview

The AS30 HPTLC Applicator uses a spray-on technique to deposit samples cleanly onto TLC and HPTLC plates without damaging the layer.

The AS30 HPTLC (High-Performance Thin-Layer Chromatography) Applicator represents a major step forward for GxP-compliant thin-layer chromatography, built around a spray-on application method. A controlled stream of compressed air carries the sample from the cannula tip directly onto the plate surface, so an external air supply is required for operation. This delivery approach protects the stationary phase from mechanical damage and lets the application tower travel across the plate while the sample is being dispensed, a key differentiator versus contact-based dosing methods used in older thin layer chromatography equipment.

Samples can be deposited as either dots or bands on TLC plates, HPTLC plates, or aluminium/plastic foils up to 200 x 200 mm. During loading, the dosing syringe sits above a catch tray that collects rinse solvent, flush liquid, and any surplus sample, keeping the work area clean between runs. Sample is drawn into the syringe body through a side port; once filling is complete, a stepper motor drives the plunger down to seal the port, while a second stepper motor drives the tower horizontally across the plate. A built-in microprocessor coordinates both motors together with the gas valve, ensuring consistent, repeatable application from lane to lane; which is a core requirement for any reliable tlc test.

Operators can program up to 30 samples per run directly from the instrument keypad. A two-line LCD display walks the user through each step of the setup, and the system automatically checks entries for plausibility while flagging out-of-range values, duplicate lane assignments, or unclear sample naming before a run begins. Each stored method captures the plate dimensions, the number of lanes, the spacing and length of each track, the applied volume, and the application speed. Sample count and a volume multiplier can also be set per lane.

A battery-backed memory retains up to 10 methods, all of which can be recalled, edited, or printed at any point. Methods can be built manually at the instrument or configured through the companion PC software, which makes it straightforward to load current programs onto the AS30 and remove ones that are no longer needed. Because every method is also stored in the PC-based data pool, previously saved programs remain accessible for future tlc chromatography runs. One particularly useful integration: the ProQuant analysis software used with the CD60 HPTLC Densitometer can import AS30 methods directly, cutting down on manual data entry and reducing the risk of transcription errors between instruments.
