This servo-pneumatic universal testing machine offers fast, reliable evaluation of stiffness, permanent deformation and fatigue behaviour in bituminous mixtures, using specimens cored from real pavements or prepared under lab conditions.
Originally developed from the NAT system pioneered by Keith Cooper and Professor Steven Brown at the University of Nottingham, this servo pneumatic universal test system pairs a precision ceramic-spool servo valve with a low-friction actuator and advanced control software. The result is performance that rivals many servo-hydraulic machines, at a fraction of the running cost.
The system generates precise digital waveforms through its actuator, recreating the stress patterns that road pavements experience under real traffic loading. Because the actuator works in both directions, it can apply compressive and tensile forces alike, giving engineers a fuller picture of material behaviour. For unbound materials, an optional triaxial cell allows resilient modulus testing as well.
